Top Tips for Hosting a Successful Training Session

As well as team meetings and presentations, meeting rooms at The Hive Wakefield can also be used to conduct group training sessions. With this in mind, it’s important to consider all of the pre-planning and preparation behind conducting training.

Here are our top tips for hosting a successful training session at The Hive Wakefield…

1.   Host in a Spacious, Clean, and Distraction-Free Space

There is a lot more to consider when conducting training than simply the material that you are going to present- choosing the right space to host is essential for ensuring it’s success.

Something that you need to consider is the size of the room; All of your attendees should have somewhere comfortable to sit, and you should have enough space to move around and present.

Training should be conducted in a quiet and private space, ideally away from noise and distractions. Ultimately, a session will only be successful if attendees actually learn something from it, and so being in a space that encourages concentration and focus will increase your chances of getting through to your group.

2.   Stay Energised Throughout the Session

Training days can be both physically and mentally tiring at times, for both the trainer and the trainees. This is why it is important to keep yourself hydrated and fuelled before and during the training session. Choosing somewhere that has unlimited access to water, tea & coffee is a great way to ensure everyone can stay at the top of their game.

Lunch time can often be disruptive to your training day: People choosing where to eat, wasting time stood in queues, nowhere to store packed lunches and snacks. This is why it is important to consider hosting somewhere that has easy access to catering options- even better if they can deliver directly to your meeting!

3.   Have the Necessary Equipment Prepared

Your training session will run much smoother if you are stocked up and prepared ahead of time. Knowing what equipment you need ahead of time is essential when trying to achieve a successful training session.

If you need to present to your group, make sure to book a space with access to whiteboards and smart screens. If you would like your group to make notes, choose somewhere that provides notepads and pens for the group.

Preparation gives you more confidence in yourself, so help yourself out and think ahead!

4.   Choose a Convenient Location

Planning a training session is hard enough, so you want to ensure that everything else about the process is easy.

Picking the location of your session is an important task, as you want it to be somewhere that is easy to get to both by car and by public transport. Looking for somewhere with convenient parking onsite is also worth considering, as you don’t want to be spending lots of time aimlessly searching for car parks.

Booking somewhere with full time reception staff ensures that your attendees are greeted upon arrival and promptly escorted to the correct training room. It also means that you can arrive knowing you will have a clean and tidy room already set up for you.

Our advice is to take the stress out of the logistics and to focus on the quality of the training.
